2 Chainz’s ‘Based on a True Story’ Debuts at No. 1

This is no lie — 2 Chainz has scored his first No. 1 album as a solo artist with his debut LP ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story.’ The collection sold 147,000 units in its first week of release, according to Billboard. 2 Chainz’s chart achievement makes him the first rap act in 2012 to have its debut album start off at the top. The last rapper to do so was Mac Miller with his independent release ‘Blue Slide Park,’ which premiered at No. 1 in November 2011. The Atlanta rapper dethroned last week’s chart king, the ‘Now 43′ compilation, to the No. 2 position with 75,000 pushed. Meanwhile, Rick Ross‘ ‘God Forgives, I Don’t’ dips from No. 2 to No. 3 with 43,000 sold. Rap duo Insane Clown Posse debuts at No. 4 with its latest album ‘Mighty Death Pop’ with 41,000 units moved, and rounding out the Top 5 is Maroon 5‘s ‘Overexposed’ with 36,000 copies pushed. Meanwhile, 2 Chainz is ready to embark on his ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’ tour, which starts on Aug. 30 in Norfolk, Va. During his interview with RapFix Live, 2 Chainz wouldn’t reveal who would join him on the trek, because, he says, it’s a surprise. “I can tell you the person is in G.O.O.D. Music,” he teases. Could it be Big Sean or Pusha T? “I didn’t say no names,” said 2 Chainz. “One thing people don’t understand is that G.O.O.D. Music has a roster; it’s just not like three or four people. But I am going on a tour, and dammit, it’s my tour, so whoever opens up, it’ll be a blessing… for both of us.”
